Different Types of Air Valves

When there is air trapped in pipelines carrying water, it can impact the performance of the system along with the durability of the pipelines. So you need to find a way to remove this air. This is done with the help of air valves. These valves can remove trapped air ensuring that water flows smoothly within the pipelines.

You can find out all about air valves by visiting the Ventomat blog. There are different air valves available for different applications. The most commonly used air valve is the air release valve. These are also called small orifice valves. These are able to remove small pockets of air that accumulate in the upper areas of a pipeline. These air bubbles can obstruct the movement of water as the capacity of the pipeline gets reduced. And you will need a higher amount of energy to pump water through. These valves will release air under pressure continuously when the pipeline is in operation using a small precision orifice. When there is air inside the pipe, there is a float that senses it and it is linked mechanically in order to open the orifice. While air release valves have a reduced capacity for bringing in and taking out air, you will need a vacuum valve to use with the air release valve when it comes to dealing with larger volumes of air.

A vacuum valve is also called a large orifice valve. These are automatic float operated valves. You can install these valves at high points of pipelines as well as downstream of pumps. These come in very useful when releasing a larger amount of air when the pump starts up. These can also take a larger volume of air inside to prevent a vacuum from being formed in the pipeline. When the water level rises, so does the float and the valve will shut off when the air has been released. The float will drop back down when the pressure drops and this allows air to come back into the pipe. Vacuum valves are instrumental in preventing collapse of pipelines and they also maintain the correct pressure in the system.

Butterfly valves get their name from the butterfly plate that obstructs or releases the flow of media in a pipeline. These are good for applications when you need to have the pipe switch from the open to closed position in a very short time. These are lightweight valves that are very easy to use. But they don’t seal properly. The functions of the vacuum valve and the air release valve come together in a combination air valve. These are increasingly used for high points in a pipeline. You will find both a large vacuum port and a small air orifice in this valve. You can have single and dual body formats to this. Dual body is seen in larger sizes. Single body units are more compact and cost-effective. But there is a wide variety of applications for a dual body valves.
